Weymouth – Dorset England, March 2015
SandWorld , sand sculpture festival this year explore the them of “Best of British”.
i took part to this event, as i did with pleasure for the 4th time n the last 5 years .
The preparation , and the carving time take place normally a couple of week before the opening, that means middle of March.
For me it is always the first project of the sand season.I gear up myself and sharp my tools to realize my first sand sculpture of the year!Working with beach-sand is quite special, as mos of the time organizer choose and deliver river sand .
Weymouth beach sand is one of the most performing sand i have been working for.
This year as the theme of British we could not miss to have in the exposition William Turner.
That was my task fort he second week i have been there.I soon tough how difficult would be to talk about color using only sand color..
Turner was a excellent painter and amazed everybody for his innovation on viewing the light and colors.I decided to experiment colors on sand.I always have been skeptical on this combination of media, because as a sculptor i like more to work with light and shade.
I found challenging to make my first colored sand sculpture .
We chose as inspiration Turner painting :“The Fighting ‘Téméraire’ “.
I used acrylic colors on water base , on synthetic base paint.
